1 `man-db` is an implementation of the standard Unix documentation system
2 accessed using the `man` command. It uses a Berkeley DB database in place of
3 the traditional flat-text whatis databases. `man-db` is used by several
4 popular GNU/Linux distributions.
6 Package contents:
8 * `accessdb` - Dumps the `whatis` database contents in human-readable form
9 * `apropos` - Searches the `whatis` database and displays the short
10 descriptions of system commands that contain a given string
11 * `catman` - Creates or updates the pre-formatted manual pages
12 * `lexgrog` - Displays one-line summary information about a given manual
13 page
14 * `man` - Formats and displays the requested manual page
15 * `mandb` - Creates or updates the `whatis` database
16 * `manpath` - Displays the contents of $MANPATH or (if $MANPATH is not set)
17 a suitable search path based on the settings in man.conf and the user's
18 environment
19 * `whatis` - Searches the whatis database and displays the short
20 descriptions of system commands that contain the given keyword as a
21 separate word
22 * `libman` - Contains run-time support for man
23 * `libmandb` - Contains run-time support for man
