48
4 November 2009 - New Cooking 20091104
pankso@923
49
SliTaz contributors are proud to announce the availability of a new Cooking
pankso@923
50 ISO image based on over 2100 packages available in the SliTaz repository.
pankso@923
51 The full system has been rebuilt with a new toolchain using Glibc 2.10.1
pankso@923
52 and GCC 4.4.1. This new Cooking uses the Linux kernel 2.6.30.6 with better
pankso@923
53 hardware support and more built-in modules. The boot process has been further
pankso@923
54 improved and the boot time is now faster than ever. Major packages found on
pankso@923
55 the LiveCD such as Firefox have been updated to the current stable version.
pankso@923
56 Home-made GUI boxes have been enhanced. Tazpkg packages manager supports new
pankso@923
57 features including the conversion of deb/rpm/arch/slackware/ipk packages to
pankso@923
58 Slitaz native format. The ISO image includes a new Openbox, GTK and icons
pankso@923
59 theme for an elegant and more beautiful desktop. We have also removed
pankso@923
60 ePDFview and switched to an online PDF viewer. This ISO image, however,
pankso@923
61 is a bit bigger than 30 Mb (31.5) due to a bigger Kernel and many new
pankso@923
62 dependencies.

pankso@923
63
We would also like to announce that the SliTaz project has a new
pankso@923
64 support forum and a new
pankso@923
65 community platform where
pankso@923
66 everyone is welcome to share and to get involved! This new Cooking ISO
pankso@923
67 is as always downloadable from the website download section:

pankso@923

82 creation of bootable USB keys (LiveUSB) and cdroms. The LinuxDays LiveCD
pankso@923
83 will contain a selection of software designed for mobile

pankso@923
92

pankso@923
93 The SliTaz project are proud to announce the release of the new stable
pankso@923
94 version of the distribution - SliTaz GNU/Linux 2.0. This new version is the
pankso@923
95 result of one year of community work and provides an ultra lightweight, fast,
pankso@923
96 scalable and stable operating system. SliTaz provides a complete graphical
pankso@923
97 desktop in less than 30MB, applications required for a reliable and robust
pankso@923
98 server environment and 1400 easily installable software packages in a few
pankso@923
99 clicks of the mouse. This new version offers the automounting of partitions
pankso@923
100 (NTFS compliant), wifi support, an office respecting the Freedesktop.org
pankso@923
101 standards (drag and drop), network booting with gPXE and
pankso@923
102 boot.slitaz.org, automatic detection
pankso@923
103 of USB and PCI devices, a GUI package manager and control center, and various
pankso@923
104 graphical tools to manage the distribution. The creation of USB media and
pankso@923
105 bootable LiveCD flavors is also simplified and greatly improved. The core
pankso@923
106 LiveCD includes Firefox 3.0.8, gFTP, LostIRC, ePDFView, mtPaint, Transmission,
pankso@923
107 Osmo and Alsaplayer. The website documentation has been updated and you can read the

108 release notes included in
pankso@923

pankso@923
118 This platform makes it possible for contributors to collaborate more
pankso@923
119 effectively, report bugs or request new features. The Labs provide each

121 bug/issues tracker, news, etc.
pankso@923

122 The laboratories provide an overview of activity on the project and
pankso@923
123 track the release of regular updates. Register to participate and
pankso@923
124 leave a comment. The project is also proud to announce 2 new mirrors:

147 Getting ready for the next stable release! - The SliTaz project is proud
pankso@923
148 to publish a new Cooking version with a lot of bug fixes, updates, improvements
pankso@923

150 firmware can be installed in one click through a graphical interface.
pankso@923
151 Tazndis also has a simple GUI which lets you manage Windows drivers in a

pankso@923
152 user friendly interface. The graphical packages manager is also much simpler
pankso@923
153 to use and LiveUSB media such as a USB key can easily be created through a box.
pankso@923
154 Netbox displays all interfaces and the new Wifibox can connect to
pankso@923
155 wireless essids, manage favorite networks and configure card drivers
pankso@923
156 manually or through Tazhw. The desktop has a GUI to enable or disable
