al@19583 1 ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) Support
al@19583 2
al@19583 3 Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) support for Linux requires an
al@19583 4 ACPI-compliant platform (hardware/firmware), and assumes the presence of
al@19583 5 OS-directed configuration and power management (OSPM) software.
al@19583 6
al@19583 7 Linux ACPI provides a robust functional replacement for several legacy
al@19583 8 configuration and power management interfaces, including the Plug-and-Play BIOS
al@19583 9 specification (PnP BIOS), the MultiProcessor Specification (MPS), and the
al@19583 10 Advanced Power Management (APM) specification. If both ACPI and APM support are
al@19583 11 configured, ACPI is used.
al@19583 12
al@19583 13 The project home page for the Linux ACPI subsystem is here:
al@19583 14 <https://01.org/linux-acpi>
al@19583 15
al@19583 16 Linux support for ACPI is based on Intel Corporation's ACPI Component
al@19583 17 Architecture (ACPI CA). For more information on the ACPI CA, see:
al@19583 18 <http://acpica.org/>
al@19583 19
al@19583 20 ACPI is an open industry specification originally co-developed by
al@19583 21 Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Microsoft, Phoenix, and Toshiba. Currently, it is
al@19583 22 developed by the ACPI Specification Working Group (ASWG) under the UEFI Forum
al@19583 23 and any UEFI member can join the ASWG and contribute to the ACPI specification.
al@19583 24 The specification is available at: <http://www.acpi.info>
